Q: How do I fix my 2001 Kia Spectra?
My Spectra has been making weird sounds lately, kind of a metal scraping sound sometimes whenever I accelerate. Last night it wouldn't start, it just did the whole alternator clicking thing. I tried to jump it a few times but no go. I can't afford to get it towed somewhere and I don't have anyone to drive me anywhere. Is there some way I can fix it myself? I may be able to walk to a parts store.

Q: How do I install a Pioneer radio in a 2001 Kia Spectra?
I have the wire harness and the dash kit. Just don't really know how to do it. We only have one installation place here and they are ridiculous in price and wait time. $100 and the appointment is over a month away. I think I can do this myself but never tried. Any advice?
A: The wiring is simple, just connect the same colors from the radio to the harness. Insulate any remaining wires.
One exception: If the harness has a blue/white wire but your radio doesn't, connect it to the radio's blue wire.
The dash kit should come with instructions for removing the factory radio and installing the kit.

I may know a lot about computers but NOTHING about cars!
My 2001 Kia (killed in action) Spectra with a manual transmission is acting funny. It idles at 3000rpm turning it on for today. I think it may just be because it's cold outside today, but it's never done this before.
I hear manual transmissions don't have a dipstick for transmission fluid but you have to check it from the plug in the bottom? I was browsing around making sure fluids are topped, but I noticed a large clear tank under the battery that has a large fat dipstick with notches. It was pretty empty but it looks like there was water in the bottom, so maybe this is what that container is for on the driver side?
Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm already late for work and not sure if I should turn the car on, even! All other fluids look fine, including engine oil.

Q: Will a 1.8L engine from a 2001 kia spectra fit in any Hyundai cars without a lot of adapation?
Or any other car for that matter? Also same question for the transmission.
A: Should fit just fine in a Accent or Elentra, you wouldn't want to put it in anything larger then those. Why are you asking anyway unless you own a junk car or are a mechanic?
Q: Whats the difference between a 2001 Kia Rio and a 2001 Kia Spectra?
Other than the looks of the vehicles, do/can they share the same internals i.e. engine, transmission, etc? A friend of mine has a 01 Rio and its falling apart. The worst part is that we cant even find a d@mn repair manual for the car. We checked the dealership, advance auto, and others who have the car. No one has a repair manual. However, i have ran across a 01 Kia Spectra repair manual at Advance the other day and was wondering if the Spectra had basically the same layout as the Rio............either way, dont buy a kia EVER.
A: I'm sorry for your pain. I could have told you that about the problems with the Kia. They are today's Yugo. It's a good thing that it is not your car. They are throw-aways.
Check to see if the engines are at least the same. if they are they will definitely use many of the same components. Go to advanceauto.com and look up the components for both cars. That way you will know which ones are interchangeable.

A: i own a repair shop,and yes it can but it would cost more than it would to go buy a good automatic shift KIA,it wouldn't be worth changing over,i have changed a few of the Toyota corolla,s over ,and its a rough job to do,and you need the automatic shift car so you can get all the parts off it you need,you cant afford to but these parts one by one,its really expensive,good luck i hope this help,s

Can't figure out why I get power to the coil but no power coming out of the coil.
A: It's either the coil or the spark sensor. Take the low tension lead off the coil and flick it against it's coil connnector. If the coil's ok you'll get a spark from the high tension lead when you flick it as the HT spark is generated from the collapse of the coil's magnetic field. Flicking the LT lead against it's connector will do that.

A: Could be your fuel pump, only way to know is to have a shop/mechanic take a look at it. On a car that old it could be anything, do a general check of all fluids first and then take it in for repair. Also, it could be your timing belt if you neglected replacing it at 60K miles.

I have a 2003 Kia Spectra and want to buy a 2001 Lightning with 75K miles. I can get the vehicle with the Kia trade in for $12K. Basically $15,600 for the lightning with a $3600 trade in on the kia. I have 3 kids, but never use the kia to transport the kids. (Denali is for that!)Thanks!
A: if you dont transport the kids its a great a idea but what happens if one day you NEED to transport them
So its kind of a 2 sided thing
on the right side you can drive a better and faster car
But on the left what happens if one day you are need to pick them up
It is really a good idea to keep the kia but its Not a cool or fun car maybe try getting something sporty and cool but with 4 or 5 seats

i have a 2001 kia spectra gs and it either has a exhaust leak or a bent exhaust valve, or both. so i am just trying to get a ball park figure on what its gonna run me to get it fix, or how much trouble i am looking at to fix it myself.
A: I own a shop, and see this a lot. This is a pretty labor intensive job, and the parts will set you back a bit too. You will need to have a machine shop fix the valve, since the guide is probably hurt too. Depending on what bent the valve, There may be other damage you can't see yet, and won't until the head is off. You are looking at probably $450+ to do the repairs. Parts will run you close to $100, and the machine work may be as much as another $100-$150, so now you have a good picture. The labor is what will set you back the most, and unless you have done one of these, and have the tools required to do the job with, you will have to have a shop do this for you. I would guess the labor may be around $250 give or take.

Things I like about each and other info.Kia-cuter than cavalier, interior,the size,warranty, my friends mom has one she has had no problems. Cavalier-cheaper than kia,sits too low,back seat is tight,my grandmother has a 2001 cavalier. She has had no problems with it. There is one problem with the Kia. When I am seating in the back seat and I am trying to look out the back window. I had a hard time and I was wondering if drivers have the same problem.
A: The Kia is your best bet. Looks nicer, better fuel efficiency, more power, and just because it is a Kia makes it great! I owned a 2004.5 Kia Spectra and put 625,000 miles on it. I never had a problem seeing, and I am only 5'1". The extra money will get you farther in the long run. The Spectra is a blast to drive.

The 185 65 14 tires are on a 2001 Kia Spectra and the 195 60 14 tires are coming off a 1994 Jetta. Just wondering if they would exchange without any problems.
A: Usually they will, but make sure there is enough room in the wheel well for the tires to spin and turn side to side freely.
Q: Viper alarm system no longer functioning properly.?
I have a 2001 kia spectra 5-speed manual with the Viper alarm system and automatic starter. My alarm system will not function properly anymore. I do not know or have the model number, unless someone can tell me where to find it at. The panic still works and goes off as normal when you hold the lock for 3 seconds. But if someone tries and break into my car the alarm will not go off. its not in valet mode, and it no longer beeps when I lock or unlock my car, How do I go upon fixing this, is it a dead fuse or what?
