The newer Kia's are excellent cars.
The Kia's made in the 90's were bad. they gave the company a bad reputation.
They have smoother rides than Civics and Protege's.
The quality is just as good.

I am needing to replace the brakes on my 2002 Kia Spectra, but in order to get the right brake pads, I need to know if I have ATE calipers on my car or not. I am totally automotive illiterate, so if there's a way to find out without having to have one of my friends crawl underneath my car and look, it would be of great assistance!
A: You should contact your Kia dealer and they should put you right
otherwise u will have to remove the wheel and check the make on the caliper.

I found an '03 Kia Spectra today with 61,000 miles on it, perfect condition interior and exterior runs great, no problems that I know of. They are asking $3900 for it...Do you think this is a good deal? I'am pretty set on getting it so I was just wondering if anyone owns one or if anyone has had any good or bad experiences with one? Convince me whether or not I should go for it!
A: Yeah, sounds good, maybe can go a little lower. Kia makes their cars cheap. Cheap car, cheap parts that break all the time. I work at a parts store, and I have seen so many people complaining about their Kia's. I will never buy one. They have so many random parts breaking off. Just my opinion.

The Sephia is noisy, uncomfortable, and shoddily built. The 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine provides adequate acceleration, but the automatic transmission shifts abruptly and often. The Spectra, new in 2001, is merely a lightly restyled four-door hatchback version. In 2002, the Sephia and Spectra names merged to just Spectra. The redesigned 2004 Spectra offers a comfortable ride, quiet interior, and good fit and finish. The four-cylinder engine delivers lackluster acceleration with the automatic and unimpressive fuel economy. A Spectra5 hatchback was available starting in 2005. The Spectra comes with standard side- and head-protection air bags, but it still got a Poor in the IIHS side-crash test. ABS can be extremely hard to find.
I think that after driving a Camry you will not like a Kia. Try to buy a used Camry or Corolla.

Why not look at the Hyundai Sonata? Comparable price and mileage (on the 4 cylinder), same warranty, and much more room for your family.
I don't own one, but it should snuggly fit 2 carseats.

Q: where to go to replace rear license plate lights on 2002 Kia Spectra?
Where can I go to get my Kia's rear license plate lights replaced? I don't feel any place where they would go. Two holes in the frame but no wires or space where the lights would be. My car had two previous owners before me and I was not informed of any accident. I live in Newport News VA.
I do not have an owners manual. The previous owner did not have one. Do you know where I can get one?
A: Just about any auto mechanic/garage can do it. Or you can take it to a Kia dealership and they'll do it for sure. All of those places will charge a bit of money, though. If you can figure out how to do it yourself, stop by an auto parts retailer (Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, or an online retailer such as JC Whitney or Auto Parts Warehouse) and pick up the parts yourself.
Unless someone really went out of their way to remove those lights, you can probably fix it in about 40 minutes (as an inexperienced person -- 20 minutes if you know what you're doing) and save a ton of money. If someone did go out of their way, though, it will need all new wiring and that requires a professional.
