have a kia 1999 sephia and i can turn on the air and the defrost and get no blowing air through the vents. woundering if this could be the fuse are motor? where is the blowing motor located for this year. and the fuse located as well. there are fuses under the hood but has no markings on them. any help would be thankful...

A: Does it have a check engine light. The most common engine performance failure in this vehicle is the coil over plug style ignition coil. Each coil runs 2 cylinders, so when 1 goes bad, the vehicle is at half power. The setup is one coil runs cyl 1(closest to crank pulley) and 4 (furthest from crank pulley) and the other runsh 2-3. They come a blue-green color, but when they are shorted they turn a burned looking brown/black and have an electrical burn odor. I would start there.
Q: I have a 1999 KIA sephia with auto trans that will not downshift. Can anyone give me some info on this?
Trans can be returned to 1st gear manually but when shifted into 2nd gear trans skips 2nd and jumps to drive or overdrive i'm not sure. Overdrive button does nothing. So i have 2 forward gears and reverse. Also engine vibrates at idle and is slow to rev. I've read some comments about the poor quality of these cars. Any and all information appreciated.
A: 1999 should tell you that up keep is necessary .. a transmission down shifts only when it needs to. over drive need to work change manually for a while

A: I would rank it as somewhere in the middle. Sometimes you just have to get lucky with your car.
For the same price, I'd rather look at an older Honda Accord. Kia quality didn't improve drastically until about 2002.

A used automatic transmission with low miles I wouldn't pay no more than 600 dollars, and a garage will charge around 500 dollars for the exchange. This is my opinion for my area of the US. A: Don't buy a Kia. Please. I have a 2001 Kia Sephia and it's a pain. The acceleration is slow, it has problems starting up after being sat for 24 hours, the brakes squeek, there are many noises coming from places that make no sense and it's only been 3 years since I've had it and the dashboard is starting to fade.
Do yourself a favor and buy Toyota, Honda or Nissan. Don't believe me? Go where I go: www.epinions.com and look up Kia Sephia. Do some research on it, J.D. Power and associates has ranked Kia really low. You may enjoy for the first year but I can guarantee you there will be problems with it. The resale value of the Kia is also horrible.

A: It depends, if it has an 'auto-tensioner' (spring loaded pulley, hydraulic, etc), and usually a serpentine belt, you may just need a 3/8 or 1/2 ratchet/breaker bar. Just relieve the tension off the belt, slip off and slip new one on.
If it has V-belts then they are individually tensioned. Which you would have to adjust tension yourself. But be careful about not over tightening the belt, otherwise ruined bearings would result.
a craftsman tool kit will suffice.

A: Need to check with KIA as any change in engine may have a computer change to pass SMOG as the laws became more restrictive. So mechanically they may be the same but electronically may not.

A: It could be the cap, rotor or coil pack. Does this happen when the car is warm? It's time for a replacement. Get something more reliable and dependable then a KIA.
