Q: What type of oil do I use for my 2004 Kia Rio?
I just need to change the oil and would like to bypass the dealership prices... I appreciate any help that anyone can give me!
A: Typically it would be 5W30... It should say on the oil filler cap... or you could just call your local dealer to confirm.
- Good Luck!

Q: Brakes locking up on 2004 Kia Rio - No fix?
I have a 2004 Kia Rio. The brakes recently have starting locking down on the tires and not releasing. It is front wheel drive. The front brakes will lock onto the tires slowly, and then unlock by themselves sometimes. They get real hot, but if I drive through a puddle of water and cool them down, they will unlock. I have had 3 pairs of new pads in the last 3 weeks. New rotors too. The calipers have been tested. The only thing the Kia dealership found wrong was a valve in the master cylinder that regulated the brake fluid, and that has been replaced.
Is this a known issue? Anyone familiar with this problem have any clues?
No one can figure out what is wrong, but they sure do want to keep charging me to replace part after part.
In real life, you can't make mechanics work for free, and telling me to buy a different American car isn't really a solution either. Anyone have concrete advice, not grandstanding judgments?
Nope, can't push it to a junkyard - still owe $9000
A: what you have there is more easy to fix and cheap than you think
so get out of my way little kids....
is not your master cylinder
is not a hose
is not the brake distributor
is not the caliper itself
IT is.... each caliper has two small cylinders where the caliper moves on, take out the caliper, remove those cylinders (most has a bolt and a piece of plastic) then clean it and lubricate and you will never have a lock caliper again
so the question is why the brakes get so hot? easy.... when those small cylinders get out of grease (lubrication) they took the bolt that pass by and they join together making your caliper cant return to original position keeping brake on
so use some wd40 and 600 sandpaper and clean it well and use some ball bearing grease and you are done
Q: How much to replace KIA rio 2004 motor received quote of up to 10000 help?
I have been ill for a long time and kept driving my kia rio 2004 without getting it serviced -stupid i know.anyway oil light came on car was driven a short distance to petrol station.now i have quotes of up to $10000 to replace motor -does this sound correct -the car isn't even worth 10000 any advice would be so much appeciated
A: sounds like to me they are trying to take you to the cleaners and you should respectively tell them to stick it where the sun dont shine, call around, to different, mechanic shops, for quotes, i ve worked for different shops in the past, and what they would charge, this was a few years back, but for a remanufactured engine, and labor was about 4,200 dollars complete driving out the door, im sure due to inflation, prices have gone up , but 10,000 thats rediculous, any ?'s zachscustomwrench@yahoo.com
Q: Do you own or have you owned a 2004 Kia Rio? How would you rate the car?
A: I test drove the 2004 Kia Rio. I will be as objective as possible. When you are used to test driving almost everything on the market you have to learn to think in dollars and sense.
The Kia Rio became the lowest priced car in the U.S. with its introduction. Fortunately by the year 2000, Korean automakers had their act together. So for under $10K, you can get a well equipped subcompact that meets your basic driving needs plus great mileage.
Its an ideal daily driver and defintely a great first car for teenagers.
Q: I have a 2004 Kia Rio heater fan switch only works if I hold it in. How should I fix this? Need heat got kids.
A: It sounds like the switch is bad. It might be possible to get to it from under the dash - can you lay on your back, reach up, and find it from below? Otherwise, you may have to remove the dashboard. That's something best left to professionals, unless you're up for a lot of looking and testing and poking around to see how it's connected.
Q: about how much would a junkyard or private buyer give me for a 2004 kia rio?
I bought the car 3 months ago. I recently took it to a mechanic and found out it was falling apart inside. i dont want it nor feel safe in it anymore. The motor is still in good condition and the inside of the car is very clean.
Do you think maybe a private buyer would want it? I'm hoping to get around $1000 for it.
I live in california if thats any help
A: 2004 may still have a bluebook value.look at the bluebook price and see if you want to get that or the 1000.00 . clean fall apart ?bluebook is more or less around the price it list.if you can put 500.00 in to get 5000.00 out.you might be better to have it repaired.
Q: I have a 2001 Kia Rio and the motor went. Can I swap a motor from a 2004 Kia Rio into it?
A: If the engines are the same size and same type then yes you could swap them out and as long as all electronics and electrical connections are the same make sure you inspect all of those things before attempting a job like that ,,,,
Q: On a 2004 Kia Rio I have a code that reads P0171 bank 1 system is to lean. How can I fix this, already put HO2s?
A: You need to determine if its actually running lean and if it is whats causing it. You may have a vacuum leak, a misfire, sticking valves, etc etc. theres no real way to tell u how to fix it without first diagnosing it. Codes arent a magic 8-ball that tell u whats wrong all they do is give you a general idea of what to look for and what kind of problem its having.
Q: Popping sound in KIA RIO 2004?
Hi, I am getting a popping sound (not grinding sound) for my KIA RIO 2004. THe sound is coming from the front right side of the vehicle. The sound comes whenever I apply the brakes to the vehicle or when I begin to accelerate from a traffice light.
I got it checked from MEINKE car care and they were not very sure of the problem. They think that it is the alignment plate on the front right wheel that may be causing the problem. My question is as below -
1) WHat could be the cause
2) How much will it cost me and the best and cheapest repair center in Charlotte, NC where I an get this fixed?
A: Take it to the kia dealer it sounds like a ball joint. That should still be under warranty. If not challenge it, and ten get a better car. Sorry to be so harsh but I worked as a service adviser in a Kia dealer and the cars are not that great.
Q: My 2004 Kia Rio "warning" buzzer doesn't work?
The warning buzzer that goes off when you leave the lights on or have the door open when the key is in the ignition has stopped working. I started to look at my fuses & a freinf told me it was to do with the key/ sterring wheel sensor. Which is it, & how simple of a repair?
A: most likely the buzzer itself but could be a fuse. the buzzer is located under the dash close to the fuse box.
Q: I have a 2004 Kia Rio with 32,000 miles and has a salvage title will the factory still warranty the vehicle?
A: They don't have access to your title.. registration....yes. and the registration does not indicate if the car has a salvage title.... but if you just bought the car with a salvage title ,, I don't believe either Kia or Hyundai are transferable anyway,, this is why theres no resale value on these cars.. they give this fantastic warranty with a calculated risk in mind,, most people trade cars every 3-4yrs...and the next guy is out of luck.. but if the car was wrecked in you owned it .. they would have no way of knowing...I Hope this Helps You.... Good Luck
Q: I bought a 2004 kia rio about a year ago and the engine blew up it is no longer under warrenty?
A: I'm confused as to the question.
If you bought the car new, Kia has a 10 year 100K warranty on their vehicles. If you bought the car used, this is not the case as their warranties are not transferable.
So if you purchased the car new, had it properly serviced, and it's under 100K, then Kia should honor their warranty.
Q: Is A 2004 Kia Rio A Good Car?
We Found A Car Is It A Good One????? Some One Answer Please That Has One And Is It Good On Gas
A: Very good Choice. Great on gas, and the ones I have driven all have positive comments from me.
Q: I have several problems with my 2004 Kia Rio Sedan.?
1. Firstly I noticed a few days ago my car tends to squeak (on the left side I believe) whenever I hit bumps. At first it sounded like maybe air whistling, but now I am pretty sure it is a squeak. On the way to work this morning the road was kind of bumpy and my car sounded awful, but on the way home from work it didn't squeak.
2. Also for a couple weeks, I noticed like 10-20% of the time when I press on my gas after being at a complete stop I hear a small noise, that I never heard before.
3. Bear with me I have only two more. For a few weeks I noticed when I break down hill it kind of sounds like fluid is rushing.
4. And sometimes my steering wheel now makes another noise when I turn. Does anyone have any advice on any of these problems.
PS I have an appointment at KIA on Tuesday but I want to sound educated so I don't get ripped off.
A: Your first question i had the same thing. Most likely you need your rotors turned. But make sure your brake pads are not on the wear bars. That will also cause you #2 question. I am not sure what would be wrong with #3. #4 it could be your wheel bearing or your CV joint on the side that you hear it on.
