Q: 2002 Kia Rio Cinco does good when idling but when given gas it cuts out.?
Kia Rio Cinco 2002 idles fine but when given gas acts like it wants to cut off and runs rough We changed spark plugs and wires. New Battery. changed fuel filter, change injectors and injector rail. Changed two sensors on top of water pump, a sensor on the vaccum and changed ignition coil. Put the fuel treatment in still doing it. Letting it run the gas out now. Going to try the fuel pump relay next. Any other suggestions?

A: Get a diagnostic test ran to see if there are any codes. From what you are telling me, it sounds like the throttle position sensor is going out. If you are electrically/mechanically inclined you can get an ohmmeter and a buddy (to move the gas pedal while doing this, and do this test while the vehicle is off), disconnect the connector to it, and check the resistance in the TPS. The resistance should vary on it respectably while the gas pedal is moved in different positions. If this shows no results, then I would suggest getting some carburetor cleaner and while it just got fired up, spray a little along where the intake manifold meets the head and along where the throttle body meets the intake manifold. If the way it runs changes, then you have just pinpointed which gasket has gone bad, creating a vacuum leak.

Q: How much are timing belt for a 2002 Kia Rio?
The dealership says I need to get a new one if I want to keep my warrenty current and the price is crazy! I'm just wondering if what they told me is a fair price.

A: Dont know how many miles are on your car, but it should be changed between 60,000 and 75,000 miles. It is probably the most important part of the car because if it goes, there is a 50/50 shot your whole engine will go with it. I would recommend to not get it fixed at a dealer. The car is inexpensive and the part is Cheap, but most dealers will charge $80-$100 labor per hour, and they round up. A local mechanic will do just as good of job for half the price. Call around mechanics in your yellow pages and most will give you a quote right over the phone.

Q: What causes a winding noise on an 2002 KIA Rio manual transmission?

A: It may be quite normal. Keep driving and see if it changes for the worse. Don't forget you have a 10 year 100000 mile powertrain warranty that includes the transmission, so keep your service schedule up. A trip to the dealer won't hurt if you only authorize the basic service like an oil change. http://www.kiatechinfo.com/index.asp

Q: I am looking into buying a 2002 Kia Rio and need to know if it is a great car?
I plan on getting a 2002 Kia Rio and want to know how well they are. I wanted to know if they are safe and reliable. How is the car overall and have there been any problems with them. I am looking into bying this car soon and need to know if I can rely on it. Will it get me to work and to other places without breaking down on me? So how are Kia Rio's?

A: If I were you, I'd check out the Consumer Reports used car guide or go to their website... it will tell you all about their value, reliability, gas milage, cost to own, etc. In my own opinion, I'd never buy a Kia. I'd find a good used Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, or Mazda 3. The few bucks that you'll save now buying that Kia, you'll hand over later (and much more!!) when it's time to fix it. Consider yourself warned!! :o)

Q: 2002 kia rio hatchback. What child car seats 9+months fit it?
Hi im just wondering if anyone knows which car seat actually fit in this car. Ideally im looking for one that will last a good few years.

A: Try Halfords for advice but you will need to take the car to them as they will need to see your seat belt set up. They will fit the seat, sometimes for free, depends on the branch and they will give training to anyone who needs to know how to fit and remove the seat. They have a comprehensive checklist to adhere to.

Q: What kind of tires would be good for a 2002 Kia rio?

A: Tire selection is dependent almost exclusively on the driver. Do you prefer a quieter ride, or stiffer handling, or more highway comfort, or long tread life, or good traction (dry, wet, or snowy)? There are too many different tires to go over here, but from experience, I can say you almost can't go wrong with a Michelin, avoid Goodyear at all costs, and BFG, Bridgestone, Sumitomo, and Cooper tires can be great if you get the right set.

Q: What's the gas mileage of a 2002 Kia rio cinco? and how many gallons can the tank hold at once?

Q: The brake light and check engine lights keep coming on for my 2002 Kia Rio, help?
Whenever I have someone look at my car they can't find a problem. Does anyone know what is causing this?

A: I own a shop, and we do extensive computer related work that no one else can find. Rule #1 is to make sure the battery is at full charge, the cables are making a good connection, and look for the ground strap going to the engine from the fire wall. Make sure every battery, and ground wire is attached and making a good connection. 80% of all computer related problems can be eliminated by repairing a bad ground cable or wire. Also; the dash may not be getting the proper ground to the fire wall. Any of this will cause this type of problem. If they can't find the problem, then you know it's not setting codes, and the problem lies somewhere else. If the voltage to the computer (for some reason or the other) falls below 12.0 volts it will do this. Check the brake fluid level, and also check the float inside the reservoir for the brakes. It could be sticking, a loose wire, or the harness not plugged in good. Sometimes a plug may have a bent pin, and won't make a good connection, and must be straightened out before it plugs on properly to make the connection. Grab the dash in one hand, and move it around while the engine is running, to see if you get the lights to come on, if so the dash isn't making a good ground. We have had to run a seperate ground wire before it stopped doing it. The ground they use is spring loaded, and it sometimes doesn't make much of a ground, thus causing this problem. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Q: How do i fix a stuck fuel gauge on a 2002 kia rio?

A: May need new float

Q: How to adjust the idle on 2002 kia rio?

A: Your car's idle is controled by the PCM, there is no adjustment. Something is wrong which is causing the idle to be off, either a vacuum line is off or broken, a sensor is faulty, or something else. Is your Check Engine light on? That would indicate that the computer (PCM) has found a problem with the engine control systems.

Q: Where is the cam shaft censor on a 2002 kia rio located?

A: Behind the pulley for the timing belt inside the timing belt housing.

Q: My 2002 Kia Rio smells like acetone when heater is turned on.?
Heater core has been checked, fuel system checked, all okay by mechanic.

A: don't worry it is just the lead based paint they used when painting the trim..got to love those Asian products

Q: I locked my keys in the trunk of a 2002 Kia Rio, how do i get them out?
Its not a how do I break into a car situation its my moms car but unfortunately it was the only set of keys...

A: this question is basically how to break into a car, the same car i have for that matter!. it can happen, you can only call a lock smith or smash a window and have the window replaced, which ever is cheaper

Q: I want to sell my engine from a 2002 Kia Rio, manual Tran. Dealer's only offering $50?
It has bent piston rods and needs to be rebuilt, but I know they're just going to turn around and sell it for $1500. How much should I realistically expect them or someone else to pay me for it?

A: There isn't any factory warranty left on the vehicle. If the car doesn't run it's really a flower pot then....isn't it. A rebuilt engine installed will be minimum $1200. Fix it first then expect something for it.....

Q: 2002 kia rio or 1998 chevy lumina?
My boyfriend and I are looking at two different used cars. The 2002 Kia Rio has 80,000 miles and minor windshield cracks and a CD player and is priced at $3,800 (nearly $800 below bluebook value). The 1998 Lumina has 110,000 miles and is in good condition, inside and out, but has no CD player and is priced at $3,200 (nearly $600 above bluebook value, but I think we could talk the man down to $2,800). The only reason I mention the CD player is because I KNOW my boyfriend will buy a nice, more-expensive-than-necessary one if the car doesn't come with one. lol. Anyway, I just wondered if anyone had experience with either (or both) of these cars and would recommend to get one...or not.

A: Don't buy the Kia. I have a friend who has one and has had nothing but problems and the parts are on the pricey side. The Chevy is a better buy because parts for a car like that are plentiful and relatively cheap.
